Windows 10: I need to show the Stereo Mix

Hello. The OS is windows 10, and the device is a Toshiba Satellite laptop. I tried to turn on the computer's Stereo Mix, but I didn't find it in the record. I tried to update the driver according to the information on the Internet, but the system told me "The best drivers for your devices are already installed". I want to know is there something wrong with my hardware? For example, when using Discord, the microphone usually cannot record the built-in sound of the computer. Friends can only hear the sound when I share a specific window. Also, when I try to make the computer play m

Stereo mix showing but not showing audio

A potential solution for those who use digital outputs to a separate sound system for your sounds (rather than speakers or headphones), and have tried all the normal suggestions when Stereo Mix shows up on the recording tab, but shows no audio, and programs
such as Audacity won't record a signal.

I use digital optical out from my sound card (Realtek High Definition Audio) to my sound system. There are therefore no speakers connected, and no speakers show in the sound settings. And no audio showing in Stereo Mix.

However, connecting headphones instantly solves the problem - stereo mix shows audio, programs like Audacity can record again (plugging headphones in the headphones jack makes no difference to the digital optical output signal = does not mute it).

I would be really interested to know why Stereo Mix will not show audio if there are no speakers or headphones connected.

The 'Stereo Mix' option is used to record the output stream of your computer, and it can be used for routing sound. If you can't see 'Stereo Mix' in your sound settings, it could be because it's disabled, it's not supported by your sound card, or the drivers are outdated.

Here's how to enable Stereo Mix:

1. Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select 'Sounds'.
   
2. Go to the 'Recording' tab.
   
3. Right-click anywhere in the empty space and check 'Show Disabled Devices' and 'Show Disconnected Devices'. 'Stereo Mix' should appear.
   
4. If 'Stereo Mix' appears, right-click on it and select 'Enable'.
   

If 'Stereo Mix' still doesn't show up, it's possible that your sound card doesn't support this feature, or you might need to update your sound drivers.

You can update your sound drivers by:

1. Pressing the Windows key + X and selecting 'Device Manager'.
   
2. Expanding 'Sound, video and game controllers'.
   
3. Right-clicking on your audio device and selecting 'Update driver'. Then, select 'Search automatically for updated driver software'.

Stereo Mix Not Showing

It appears that the driver is not recognized by the computer. Your audio chipset drivers may be outdated, that's why Stereo Mix does not appear in the list of devices. We suggest checking the device manufacturer if there are available updates for the drivers.

Once you're done updating the audio chipset drivers, check again if the missing device will appear.
